About Us

Des and Margaret Jeffares started breeding and producing young horses in 1999 when they moved into Ballykelly Farms. Having received a yearling filly, Ballykelly Tigris from Margaret's Dad Tom Frost a well known horseman from Co Clare, it reignited Margaret's passion for her horse upbringing.  They then went on to purchase two more fillies a four year old - Corrib Eva and Debbie's Clover a yearling. All three have gone on to become Ballykelly Farms foundation breeding mares and have since bred many winners.

Margaret has been involved in ponies and horses all her life. Daughter of Tom and Teresa Frost from Co Clare she competed with ponies in showing and showjumping and went on to produce and show ridden hunters in her later teenage years. Margaret rode for almost twelve months in the US with an Olympic Dressage Rider before returning home to pursue her career.

Des and Margaret got married in 1994 and in 1999 moved into Ballykelly House and Farms, Des's homeplace and the Jeffares family home for many a generation. Des a 3rd generation blackcurrant grower always had an affinity with animals and quickly learned the way of the horse. With confidence in his own breeding his interest grew and today Margaret and Des are a strong team.

Together they produce breeding mares and youngstock and have had in their short time huge success in the show ring and in making sales in England, Ireland and Scotland.
